I've been wanting to try Nara Sushi for a while and was finally able to on May 30th, 2025. The restaurant is small, yet clean. The staff were nice and answered all my questions. I got a Virginia roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a mini me. All the ingredients used to make the rolls were fresh. The mini me roll was a fried sushi roll, and I could tell that it was fried in fresh oil because it did not have a bad after taste nor did it make me feel queasy. This is not an all you can eat at restaurant, so you do have to pay for each roll you order. They are decently priced. Would I come back??? Absolutely!

I have been here before to pickup food but today was the first time I had dined in. The restaurant is very intimate in a delightful way. The food was on point and everything tasted fresh. My wife is pregnant and was only able to have cooked items. She found everything delicious and had enough options to keep her satisfied. Once we have our child, we plan on coming back to let Eric feed us with the Omagaze. Thank you for the great food and service.

My favorite sushi spot in all of Hampton roads. Great fish selections for nigiri. Tight spot and small but that’s because all the money goes to quality ingredients. I love that’s there’s not a lot people inside when dining with my family. It’s very clean and real customer service and welcoming. Reminds me of being back home.

I have been going to Nara Sushi for about 20 years. My goal at one time was to eat everything on the menu, except all the different rolls. The creative mixing of fish, veggies, fruits and sauces create fusion dishes that bring your taste buds to life. But traditional sushi is there as well. The well lite, soothing atmosphere is great as well as the service.

Updating my review from a year ago. Nara Sushi has the best and most authentic sushi in Virginia Beach. I come here almost weekly. The owners remember all their recurring guests. It's really a home like environment there. Most of the customers are regulars so you start to meet others. They know us and our extended family. The really make us feel welcomed every time we come. It's such an intimidate small restaurant. Somehow they make it roomy and keep it very clean. Service is superb and timely. All of the waitresses and waiters are bilingual, fluent in English and their native language. I recommend calling for reservations as this place gets busy very quickly during dinner time. It's pretty easy, just call ahead. Eric is the main sushi chef. Him and his wife own this restaurant. Eric creates each roll as if the were his master piece. The fish they serve is fresh. Each dish is beautifully presented and really delicious. I always leave there with belly full and satisfied. This is the only place in the city that creates and serves a sushi hand roll, correctly. All I can say is I highly, hands down, can not say any more, about how much I recommend this place. If you want real sushi, just dine here.

My first visit here, I'm new to Hampton Roads. Trying to find a new favorite sushi bar. I chose this establishment due to the 4.8 star reviews and I was not disappointed. The fish was very fresh, and everything looked delicious as well. I was pleasantly surprised that they had Uni (sea urchin) which is my personal fave when it comes to sushi - it was sublime. Highly recommend ordering the Haygood Roll, that one is a home run! I will definitely be back again! Thank you for an enjoyable dinner!

Nara is 10000/10 amazing! The staff is incredibly attentive, the attention to detail in the food is clear and they have such unique dishes that we love trying when we go! We love coming here and it holds a special meaning for us: my fiance and I actually met here on our first date five years ago today, and got engaged here last March! They celebrated with us and it was so sweet! I can’t recommend this place enough if you want the best sushi around (try the sushi nachos!) and the best atmosphere and staff. Nara's sushi is off the chain - I'm talking 'I-just-found-my-happy-place' good! The service is all smiles, the food is consistently fresh, and it's clear they're cookin' with love. Round up the gang, it's sushi time!
